Detailed description
Please note: The following information is based on the provisions of the Federal Social Security Act, which has since expired. Similar benefits are now provided under Book XIV of the Social Code (SGB XIV). We will be able to provide you with more detailed information on this shortly. Until then, please contact the office listed at the bottom of this page with any related concerns.
If you suffer health damage in Germany as a result of an intentional, unlawful physical attack, for example bodily harm, you can apply for benefits in respect of this health damage.
Benefits for medical and health treatment, welfare benefits, pensions and other cash benefits are considered.
These benefits are based on the degree of consequences of your health impairment (degree of consequences of the impairment) and your needs.
Financial or non-material damages will not be compensated. This also applies to damages caused by yourself (e.g., if you started a fight).
You may be denied benefits if you, as the injured party, do not contribute to the investigation, for example if you do not file a report.
For foreign nationals, the extent of benefits depends on the length of their legal stay. Your stay is considered legal even if your deportation has been suspended ("tolerated deportation"). However, people staying in Germany illegally are not entitled to benefits.
